Public view
8 February 2015

Private viewing by appointment 10 February - 12 March 2015

For his presentation at Platform 102 Ermias Kifleyesus presented works that expand upon the artist style which has been 15 years in the making – showing a strong commitment to the studio, to the process of looking, re-worked concepts and experimentations with the public.

Kifleyesus created a conversation within Platform 102 enabling the viewer to understand the deep sense of community used to create each piece. At the same time, the presentation expresses his own identity through his engagement in creating the work. A process that includes random public actions which at times seems playful, but are steeped in art history, social politics and contemporary ideas about materials and form.

His observances of the most ubiquitous and mundane actions expresses a determination to find order and meaning in the chaos of found and emotionally or memory-charged material. This provides for the presentation to have a singular language, expressing itself as a form of expanding the boarders of contemporary practice into an insightful creative intimacy with the assistance of the public.

Kifleyesus is an artist whose terrain lies along interface of culture and place/ment. Works are an overlaying of things international, anonymous and personal. That fact alone makes Kieflyesus one of the most interesting emerging artists practising in Brussels today.
